 Shobha makes her home in Austin, Texas where she works on her jewelry in a studio which she shares with several other artists, is a part time student and a full time mother. She began experimenting with jewelry while waiting for her child to arrive and went from basic beading to studying metalsmithing. Combining her fine arts degree from the University of Maryland and her growing interest in jewelry design she started creating her pieces using jewelry as an art form and means of expression. The work is primarily sterling silver with some 18k gold accents. She uses semi-precious and precious stones, leather, ribbon, photographs, old prayer cards, sketches, gold leaf, found objects and pretty much anything she finds that is interesting and that she can get her hands on.
